PPWR: Article 5 entered into force on 12 August 2026

The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) introduces new requirements for packaging across Europe. The first provisions have been applicable since 12 August 2026. Among the most important of these provisions is Article 5, which defines limits for substances of concern in packaging.
Particular focus is placed on the following:
- PFAS in food-contact materials
- Limits for heavy metals
- Enhanced requirements in terms of product safety and documentation
The aim is to make packaging even safer and to provide better protection for both consumers and the environment. Article 5 therefore forms the basis for a sustainable and future-proof packaging strategy.
